Palomar Community College Outreach Ministry

Yesterday marked our third meeting of "Bible Study and Breakfast." Our vision for this group is to unite the saints attending Palomar Community College and to evangelize the nonbelievers, sharing Christ's love and hope.

Good-bye old friend...

Today I had to say goodbye to one of my good friends. He stood with me when times were tough. He was there to drive me in the wee hours of the night. He brought me to my destinations and saved me a lot of gas. His name was civic. He was 18 years old before he left.

It was a sad sight to see but our friendship will last forever. I hope your new owner takes good care of you.
Don't forget me. I won't forget you.

God's mighty hand

Last week was filled with visits to Elementary schools, Highschools, and Universities. We'd wake up every morning at 4am for group devotions through the book of Acts, eat breakfast, then leave to share the gospel of God's love.
Our young missionaries have been sharing their testimonies and stories of God's work in their lives to kids and adults. At the elementary schools almost 100% of the students would come up to receive the Lord (which was at least 100 per school). The most amazing work we saw was when a total of 119 college students came up to receive the Lord. I'm telling you it is a sight to see people come to receive the Lord. Angels are rejoicing, shouldn't we be rejoicing too???

Last Friday began our trip to the Tau't Bato, "the people of the rock," a Palawan tribe located in the jungles of Rizal (a 7 hour hike). We took a few stops here and there but hiked the whole thing straight. Immediately after our arrival we bathed in the river (which was super refreshing), and then rested for the day. The following morning we began our medical dental outreach coupled with a few performances and the gospel message. Sarah got to share the gospel to the tribes for her first time in Tagalog and about 12 people accepted. Pretty awesome huh?
The following day we found ourselves in a predicament. Yvonne caught a fever and wasn't doing too well. She wasn't strong enough to hike up the 50 degree hill so we devised a plan. Both Pastor Lumihay and Abel put together a stretcher made out of tree logs and rope. Tyler, Mark, Daniel, Pastor Abel and his son carried Yvonne up the hill . I'm telling you it was the most intense thing ever. During this whole time it was pooooouuurrrring....God, however, gave us the strength to make it. Yvo was strong and actually hiked most of the way back. A carabou escorted her when we made it out of the jungle.
Because of Yvonne's situation we were set back a few hours and found ourselves hiking through muddy waters and slippery slopes. After a total of 9 1/2 hours we made it back to the drop off where we were picked up and brought back to Pastor Abel's where we stayed the night. Praise the Lord...we made it!

Currently we are in Jones, Isabella on the Island of Luzon awaiting the school outreach we have for the next two days. We just arrived from Gapan where we did film showing and a school outreach at Montessori Elementary/Highschool where my cousin's wife's mom teaches.

Continue to please keep us in prayer brothers and sisters...we have a few more days in Luzon. Some of us we'll be heading back to the U.S. while the rest of the team continues on to Vietnam on August 1.

God has been good and He continues to show Himself faithful. We can't express the joy we have in seeing God work through the tough times. He continue to be our strength when times are hard.

Safe flight

After 16 hours of flying, we finally made it to the Manila International Airport safely (PTL=Praise the Lord)Q! Some of us are just snacking, while a few of us are just awaiting our transfer flight to Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
I'll be doing my best to keep in touch with you all every time I get connected. Wireless internet is among the few things I can mention that I'm already thankful for in the U.S. In the meantime please pray for our upcoming ministries and the God to prepare the harvest.

This afternoon at 3pm begins our medical and dental clinic in Quezon, Palawan.

Tribal outreach to the Tau't Bato, morning outreach @ Anilawan, Concepcion, Binduyan, and Langugan Elementary Schools, Film showings and evangelistic Crusades.

Philippines Outreach 07--Video

This is the video I made of our most recent trip to the Philippines (July 11-August 9). We were able to bring a team of about 20 missionaries this year to bless the people of Palawan, Philippines with medical and dental care. We shared the gospel at schools and outreaches (using music, performances, and a skit), proclaiming to everyone that it was because of Christ's love that we were there. I hope you are blessed! Birthday aBOY!

Da Cow

Btw…during our stay here in Vietnam we learned some new sports. One of them is called “Da Cow.” (That’s reading it phonetically) To put it simply it’s like hacky sack but with a “shuttlecock.”
As we got better, we eventually had tournaments in our rooms.
I’ll leave you with a few pics of us in our sweet gear. (below you’ll find the “shuttlecock.” It’s the one Mark’s holding.)

The other sport we learned is called, Sepak Takraw. It’s similar to volleyball but instead of using your hands to hit the ball, you use your feet. When I first saw this sport, I was amazed at the flexibility of the players. For those of you who have watched Shoalin Soccer it’s pretty much the same thing. When you get a chance youtube “Sepak Takraw.” You’ll be amazed at this international sport.

Leaving Vietnam

Yesterday, we visited a leprosarium. We ministered to the people through worship songs and food distribution (rice and canned food). During our worship, volunteer workers for the government came by to see what we were doing. They joined in our songs and it looked like they were having a greaet time.
When it came to the message, we were stopped by the head of the leprosarium because he didn’t want members of the government to tell officials what we were doing. We agreed to his plea, however, one of the volunteer workers asked why we were there. My dad simply told him, “because of the love of Jesus Christ.” This opened up another doorway for the gospel so we shared to him and the other workers, about Jesus Christ. They were very open and many of them accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Praise God for the breakthrough!
Immediately following our feeding, we prayed for two Christian families (there is a total of twenty-four in the area).
Looking back, I’m amazed at how the Lord has orchestrated this whole trip. Coming to Vietnam was a first for most of us and we weren’t sure exactly what plans God had and what ministries He had to offer. However, we walked by faith and God guided us the whole way.

Please lift up the Khuu family, Yvonne, and Mario as they return home to the U.S. Also, please pray for Mark, my dad, and I as we return to Palawan to minister to the Tau’t Bato. Praise God for His faithfulness! He has never let us down!

The Tau't Bato

I just want to inform you all on our plans for the last week of the Philippines/Vietnam Mission Trip (August 10-16).

After our stay here in Vietnam, Mark, my dad, and I will be returning to the Philippines to visit the "people of the rock," better known as the the Tau't Bato. These people are the kinds of people you'd find in a National Geographic magazine. Yes, by that I mean people who are half naked, carry blow darts, eat snakes, and most importantly need to know about Jesus Christ and His love for them. I found some websites that'll give you information on these people and some articles of people who have made contact with them. Please be in prayer for us. I'll update you on the status of the trip.

The Church

As you may know, our group has been in Vietnam for almost a week. For the first six days, we had rest and recreation. We visited two cities, Da Lat and Nha Trang. On our way to Da Lat, we saw pine trees, waterfalls, and cabins. The countryside look isn’t too far, from what we would see in the U.S. It’s quite amazing. After much sight seeing and fun, we were quite anxious to meet the church.

Yesterday, we met seminary students, local pastors, and church leaders in a church located in an upstairs building somewhere in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon. We sang a few worship songs and shared testimonies and messages. We also had a chance to fellowship with one of the local youth groups in Saigon. We sang worship songs together and shared to them what the church was like in the US.

According to Open Doors USA, Vietnam is ranked number eight on the most persecuted countries. We were anxious to hear what kind of persecution the church went through so we questioned the leaders of the church. One pastor describes evangelistic outreaches, “You can share the gospel to people one on one in the park. However, you can’t gather a crowd.” He also explained that foreigners could be kicked of the country for sharing their faith.

Today is Sunday and we joined in a service at a tribal church. We traveled four hours to this church, which had a congregation of 1,000 people, and they spoke in a different dialect.

Home churches are big in this congregation. I’m not quite sure about the details but what I know is that each home church has a congregation of about 200-300 people. They’re in need of a church building, which cost around $2,400.

We have a lot to learn about the church in Vietnam. It’s so diverse, so large, different levels of persecutions in different places. Despite what could happen to us, we ask for your prayers. We know that the power of prayer is immeasurable. Pray that the Lord may open up opportunties for ministry in these last five days in Vietnam. We’re hoping to visit a leprosy hospital, do evangelism; pretty much whatever God may have in store for us.

Vietnam Outreach Day 1

The challenge of outreach was put before us in Vietnam because we had to be discrete about our missionary work, but even on the first day the Lord worked as these kids tugged at our shirts persistently to buy gum, roses, or flowers. Even though our hearts wanted to give to them, we had heard that many of these kids are forced as slaves to sell these items and only receive a small portion of the profits. They are trained so well to cry and stomp their feet until you are so compelled to buy from them. So instead of supporting this boss that they work for the Spirit led us to feed them and share with them the Gospel. Truly these challenges have not stopped the work of the Lord, but glorified Him even more.

Prayer for the Philippines/Vietnam Outreach Trip

Philippines...Here we come!

It's a beautiful day in Carlsbad. The sun is out, the sky is blue, and my house is actually maintaining the outside temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Let's face it; San Diego has the best weather in the world. However, it won't be too long till I kiss this cozy little place I call home good-bye. For a month and few days that is.
During that time period away from home, I'll be out serving our Lord on a mission's trip in the Philippines and Vietnam. In the Philippines, our church, Bethel Baptist Filipino Mission along with our brothers and sisters in Christ from Vietnamese Baptist Mission, will be hosting a medical and dental outreach for 3 days. Along with that ministry, we'll be sharing the gospel through film showing events, school visitations, village to village outreaches, feeding and much more. I ask you, the reader, to please pray for this ministry. We definitely can't do anything without the Lord and we sure can't complete anything without prayer. To be more specific with our prayer requests, I will include in the next blog a list of dates and events that you can pray for. Thank you for partnering with me in this endeavor to see many saved for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It says in Romans 10:14, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?" We are being sent out through the Holy Spirit to share the good news and it would not have been possible without your prayers, donations, and contributions. I know that we all will receive a reward in heaven for what we have done for Him. I'll do my best to keep you posted on what's happening on the PIVOT (Philippines/Vietnam Outreach).
